How Rose McGowan transmuted her pain into the ultimate form of creativity 🌹

As Rose brings her immersive show Planet 9 to London tonight, I wanted to reflect on our time working together as I don’t know how but it’s already been a year! 👽

When I met her, we got on like a house on fire. She was compassionate with a wicked sense of humour & all about raising human potential. At the time, she was in the thick of the ‘me too’ media storm, only being seen in one way by the press. ☔️

The media had her absolutely polarised and entrenched in a narrative that was so important not just for the heart of Hollywood but for women globally as well. 🌍

Holding the space for this was super challenging for her to deal with over and over again. Witnessing her strength throughout each and every press interview where she was being asked to go over the same horrors of her story every day was like watching her walk a living nightmare and her pain was palpable. 🐚

The press wanted the darkness but didn’t take her vulnerability, her human-ness, her feelings, her creativity nor her bright light into account. As you can imagine this drove me pretty crazy as her publicist at at the time. 🤦🏽‍♀️

If they had dug a little deeper they would have seen that for years Rose had been creating a brilliant body of work including art, poetry, photography, writing, producing her own music and even directing films as well as authoring her book Brave. I was so inspired as she entertained me with all of these brilliant tools. Her dream was for everyone to see her gifts, how she had alchemised the pain she felt and transmuted it into beauty. 🎶

We worked together to change the narrative by making sure all press mentioned Planet 9 arriving, championed her fashion week involvement and ensured her creative projects were always mentioned. Breaking out of the grip of this narrative was going to take a long time. 📖

We refused for her existence to be wholly defined by the movement in the press, as important as it was, as she had so much more to her than this fight she took on when no-one else was prepared too. 🙅🏽‍♀️

The amount this woman has endured and achieved is awe-inspiring. I’m just so damn proud to see her dreams of finally bringing her creative vision to life through Planet 9. Lots of love to you Rose McGowan wishing you all the success this evening! 💖
